South African mothers of all ages are looking forward to Sunday, 9 May, when Mothers’ Day will be celebrated this year. In anticipation of this and to gain a little experience on how to show appreciation towards the mother who has raised you and still does just about everything around the house, why not try this easy but tasty dish to spoil mom on Mothers’ Day as Kealeboga Matsafu is planning on doing? Kea (18 yrs) from Mabeskraal is a model, training nail technician and an upcoming kiddies’ events planner. Kea is the founder and a director of a registered NPC - Rare Seeds Foundation, which aims to plough back to the community through education and social impact. Her beauty and warmth shines from within and of her many talents and traits she enjoys making tasty meals in the kitchen during her spare time. Kea followed this recipe:

Beef stew

Ingredients:
1 kg beef
1 onion
Garlic (optional)
Red, yellow and green peppers
1 tsp cayenne
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp 11 in one spice @Woolworths
1 tsp Italian herbs
Beef and onion soup (or tomato paste instead)
Oil
Beef stock
A pinch of salt

Method:
Chop and fry onion and garlic. Add red, yellow and green pepper. Add beef and fry until brown. Add paprika, cayenne, 11 in one spice, a pinch of salt and Italian herbs. Dissolve beef stock in two cups of water and add to your pot. Add soup to thicken the mixture.

Savoury steamed bread

Ingredients:
Cake flour
Yeast
Rosemary
Mixed herbs
Parsley
Salted butter

Method:
Add two cups of flour to a bowl. Add 1 tsp of yeast to the flour. Add rosemary, mixed herbs and parsley and then mix well. Add two cubes of salted butter to the mixture. Add warm water and mix well. Cover and allow to rest until it rises. Steam in a closed pot (allow to cool before serving).

Chakalaka

Ingredients:
Carrots
Onion
Green pepper
Baked beans
Chakalaka seasoning

Method:
Fry onions and add green pepper. Add grated carrot to the pot. Add a sachet of chakalaka seasoning. Add baked beans and turn down the heat.
